Until 40 years
ago, Abu Dhabi,
now the island
capital of the
United Arab Emirates,
was a small fishing
village. Transformed
by oil revenues
into a modern
metropolis, today,
it is a beautiful
modern garden
city, with wide
tree-lined boulevards,
lush green parks,
and cool, bubbling
fountains. However,
parts of the old
Abu Dhabi can
still be seen
in the Dhow wharf
and fish market,
in the north-east
of the city.
